Hosted by Amsterdam Spook, The Surrealist Ball is inspired in part by the Rothschilds’ lavish costume parties of the 1970s. Our inaugural ball was held in April 2017. The next Surrealist Ball will be held in spring 2020. Dates and details will be announced here summer 2019.

Book a VIP Custom Styling ticket and the team of costumiers, stylists & makeup artists from Amsterdam Spook and The Makeoverfactory will craft a complete bespoke costume just for you.

Pre-bookings only. Fill in the costume form and we will do the rest. Appointments are at 21:00 and 22:30 at the venue. A limited amount of custom styling tickets (100) are available.

Costume required - and anything goes. Surrealist fashion, avant-garde, gala dress with mask, hat or headdress. It's time to shed your man suit costume and embrace the subconscious. Flora / Fauna - Inspired by nature and the elements. Embellish with flowers, vines, or become the sky. Animal head masks, lobsters, birds nests, fish, antlers, wings.
Haute surreal - Draw from McQueen, Gaultier, Gareth Pugh, Elsa Schiaparelli, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada. High fashion, not ready to wear - and ready for the runway.
Art - You are the work of art. Elements of famous, modern, classic or obscure artworks, like Man Ray's violin back, Margritte's bowler hat and green apple, Dali's eggs, Banksy's flower thrower. Or, come as Warhol, Dali or Kahlo reborn.
Abstract - dismiss the rational. Geometric, dramatic, outlandish shapes like hoops, spheres, cubes, spirals. A dress of hair, a crown of barbies, a coat of cockroaches, a carrot.
Classic Rothschild - Take your favourite gala dress or black tie suit and pair it with a top hat, mask, lamp shade, bird cage, obscure headdress, antlers, animal head.
